Big East Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team
Creighton Bluejays - Grade: A
Creighton had four key starters from last year’s team, including a trio of all-league players. One of them ran out of eligibility in Baylor Scheierman so he couldn’t come back. They also lost Trey Alexander, the starting two guard who decided to go pro.
The good news for the Bluejays is that they were able to bring back Ryan Kalkbrenner, who averaged 17.3 ppg and 7.6 rpg, while also being a multi-time Big East Basketball Defensive Player of the Year big man. He’s set to be one of the best players in the country next season so getting him back was huge.
The two other main moves were what Creighton did to replace the outgoing starters. Pop Isaacs was the leading scorer at Texas Tech, averaging 15.8 ppg on 35% shooting from the field. Jamiya Neal is a 6’6 wing from Arizona State who also was a double-digit scorer. They might not be as good as Alexander and Scheierman but as far as transfers go, they’ll be solid starters.
With starting point guard Steven Ashworth back and backup center Fredrick King returning from the transfer portal, Creighton is set to be a top-25 team next season and someone that can compete for a Big East title.
