Big East Basketball: Ranking the top 20 transfers for the 2024-2025 season
By John Makuch
12. Tyler Perkins (Villanova)
If you beat them, then join them? Well, that is what Tyler Perkins has done coming out of Penn, where he took down his future team the Villanova Wildcats. The true freshman had a great season for his Ivy League squad, putting up 13.7 points per game with 5.3 rebounds as well. He was a big piece in a successful season for this Penn team and was a three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week. And now he makes the jump to Villanova as Kyle Neptune will look to develop his already shown talents this early into his career.
After watching him put up 22 points and six rebounds against them, it seems that Neptune immediately put a big circle around him as a potential transfer acquisition, and now Perkins finds himself on the other side of town. As someone who started a ton for Penn, it will be interesting to see how he plays in a potential bench role, but he could work his way to being a key starter for this team. Villanova has gotten plenty of great players from the DMV throughout its history, and Perkins looks to add himself to that list of great players.
The Ivy League has been interesting in the new era of NIL, with true freshmen standing out for those teams, and then finding themselves with new homes and a solid payday just a season later. Perkins will help this Villanova team as they look to get back to the success of the Jay Wright days, but there will be plenty of work to do before then.
