Big East Basketball: Ranking the top 20 transfers for the 2024-2025 season
By John Makuch
11. Dante Maddox Jr. (Xavier)
Dante Maddox Jr. was a highly touted transfer coming out of Toldeo, and Sean Miller’s Xavier Musketeer program was able to go out and get this impact scorer. He led the Rockets with 15.6 points per game and a 40.2 percent shooting percentage from three. He is an all-around player that can play some tough defense, and is playing his fifth year of college basketball so he provides that experience a team like Xavier was looking for.
After losing Quincy Olivari, this team needed a player who could replace that scoring output, and Maddox Jr. will do exactly that. He adds himself to a Xavier team that is retooled and rearmed heading into next season, and they are a sneaky team to compete in this Big East Conference. The Musketeers have had injury issues in the past couple of years, but they return Zach Freemantle and Jerome Hunter, along with some solid transfers and a lot of the key parts of this roster coming back.
Maddox Jr. will have the ball in his hands plenty for this team, and may just be the guy they go to when a bucket is needed. As a 6’2 guard who can make a lot of great things happen, the Musketeers add a whole new level to their offense when you can get the output that this guy provides. His journey beginning at Cal Fullerton and now finding himself all the way to the Big East Conference has been great to follow along, but now it is all or nothing in his final season of college basketball.
