Big East Basketball: Ranking the top 20 transfers for the 2024-2025 season
By John Makuch
4. Wooga Poplar (Villanova)
Villanova has had their fair share of struggles since the retirement of Jay Wright, but with a big-time transfer, they may just have the guy to help put them back on the map. Wooga Poplar comes out of Miami as a 6’5 forward ready to bolster this lineup that needs a spark. He put up 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Hurricanes last season, and will look to make even more of an impact as he returns to his home state.
The Wildcats will look for him to take that next step as an impact transfer, and improve his shooting numbers to a bit closer to that 40 percent mark from three, but even if he replicates this past season he is the forward they needed after some departures. He has experience getting deep into the tournament, and he will now look to help Villanova just get there after missing it last season.
Villanova is in a bit of a make-or-break year, and it was unclear if they would rebound but then Poplar made his commitment to Villanova. This program has proven they can still get big-time transfers, and now Neptune will just have to get the most out of his new star player. His offensive ability is going to be fun to watch in this conference, and he will find himself some major minutes for this team, he should have no problem making a name for himself in this Big East Conference.
