Big East Basketball: Ranking the top 20 transfers for the 2024-2025 season
By John Makuch
2. Malik Mack (Georgetown)
Ed Cooley and the Georgetown Hoyas made an absolute splash by picking up Sophomore guard Malik Mack. Mack had an outstanding season for Harvard, winning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and averaged 17.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game. He makes the transition to the Big East for a team that needs a crafty guard that can score, and Mack is just that.
The Cooley rebuild continues by picking up one of the top players in the entire portal, and given his youth, this program plans to keep him for more than just next season. Mack will look to improve his Three-point shot and improve his defense even at that 6’1 frame. He immediately impacts this roster and gives Cooley a ton of credibility going forward with this program. For a true freshman to be putting up double-figure scoring nights as often as he did, it is hard to imagine he was not going to enter the portal.
It is interesting though that he finds himself at Georgetown, a program that has struggled in recent years. While money talks, the chance to establish himself at a historic program under a star head coach is still enticing as well. Mack has a chance to help re-establish the culture at Georgetown, but it is up to Cooley to develop this young star and capitalize off this pickup. He will immediately find himself in this Hoya lineup, but we will see how he adjusts to the ruggedness of the Big East Conference.
