Big East Basketball: Ranking the top 20 transfers for the 2024-2025 season
By John Makuch
1. Kadary Richmond (St. John's)
Kadary Richmond is the intriguing case of a Big East player transferring to another Big East school, which is something we do not see very often. And when we do usually see it, it does not involve an absolute superstar and potential NBA Draft pick. Richmond was an absolute monster for the Seton Hall Pirates after his move from Syracuse, and now he is on his third and final team with the St. John’s Red Storm.
The impressive part about Richmond is his consistent improvement year after year, and he especially broke out this past season for the Pirates. He went from averaging 10.1 points a game up to 15.7 and improved his rebound and assist totals as well. He started 34 of 35 games and was the leader on the floor for this squad. His three-point shooting is still a part of his game that needs some consistency, but he can knock them down when open.
His defense is also what stands out, Richmond can take the other team’s best player and slow them down, and he has plenty of experience with that physical style of defense the Big East demands. He is just an all-around point guard who has so much of his game already developed, and now he adds himself to the St. John’s unit that will demand plenty out of him.
Rick Pitino will likely look to make Richmond more of a knockdown shooter but will expect even more physicality on drives that Shaheen Holloway demanded. It will be interesting to watch the future matchups between Seton Hall and St. John’s, and if there will be any revenge served by the Pirates after his departure.
