Big East Basketball: St. John's, Villanova rise in updated 2024-25 WTE power rankings
4. Marquette Golden Eagles
If there was one team where there’s no point in doing much of an update is Marquette, who in the past two years, hasn’t landed a single transfer. They also haven’t lost many to the portal. However, they did lose two of its best players early to the NBA Draft, Oso Ighodaro and Tyler Kolek, a former Big East Basketball Player of the Year.
The good news is that the Eagles did bring back one of the Big 3. Guard Kameron Jones led the team with 17.2 ppg, shooting 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range. He’s going to be a favorite to win Conference POY and will be able to produce more as the clear go-to guy on offense.
Even without Kolek, there should be a good amount of depth in the backcourt. Sean Jones could be the new starting point guard after missing half of last season with an injury. Stevie Mitchell and Chase Ross are capable rotation pieces, while Tre Norman and Zaide Lowery will have chances for larger roles.
David Joplin is the other returning double-digit scorer (10.8 ppg and 3.9 rpg) and will be the focal point in the frontcourt. If Ben Gold can be a legit replacement for Ighodaro inside, Marquette will have a chance to remain in the top-25 mix.
