Big East Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2024-25 season
By John Makuch
8. Seton Hall Pirates
The Seton Hall Pirates are coming off an NIT Championship, a huge moment for head coach Shaheen Holloway as he looks to build this program. However, a combination of having an older team as well as an exodus of transfer portal exits ensures he has a lot of work to do to build this roster.
The big move was Kadary Richmond entering the portal, which opened up a need for a point guard immediately, and now they also have to watch him play for a rival in St. John’s. They likely return Dylan Addae-Wusu and have added in some four-star transfers already. Big man Gus Yalden from Wisconsin, forwards Scotty Middleton from Ohio State, and Prince Aligbe from Boston College. They also just tapped into the Sun Belt Conference and picked up Chaunce Jenkins, a 6’4 guard from Old Dominion.
Jasheem Felton and Godswill Erheriene are their two recruits coming in, so while there is plenty of work to do with this roster, they have already made some solid moves in the portal and recruiting to keep this roster healthy. Their ranking at seven is based on the expectation to go out and get guys, but as of now, they are thin when it comes to depth.
Having that NIT run, a respected head coach, and the talent brought in already should be enough to put together a solid squad next year, but time will tell.
