Big East Basketball: What each team's 2024 New Year's Resolution should be
By John Makuch
Georgetown - Free Throws and efficiency
The Georgetown Hoyas and Ed Cooley have had an interesting season when it comes to the growth of this team offensively. They sit at second in the Big East shooting 35.4 percent from three, but they sit at 10th in the Big East in field goal percentage with 43 percent shooting.
Their inside play is going to have to improve in terms of efficiency, and when you have these struggles, usually you will try to force your way to the line to try to find another way to put points on the board. but free throws have not been kind to them either, they lead the conference in free throw attempts with 21.9 per game, but they shoot an abysmal 69.8 percent from the charity stripe. It is hard to just fix this all of a sudden, but that number is going to have to go up if this team wants to compete more in this conference.
Providence - Hit your free throws
The Providence Friars have been one of the best stories in the conference under first-year head coach Kim English. They are one of two unbeatens in conference play and they sit at 11-2 on the season.
This team has one kryptonite though that hurt them in their two losses, the free throw line. They are dead last in this conference with a 68 percent shooting percentage from the line, which is just not going to win you a lot of basketball games against some of the best teams in this conference.
While English has done a phenomenal job with this program, they will need to put time in the gym and make sure this free throw issue gets ironed out in 2024, or else this great start will turn bad very quickly.
