Big Sky Basketball: In-depth look at Northern Arizona guard Oakland Fort
By Bryan Mauro
If you were to poll a general population of college basketball fans most of them would tell you that they have not or rarely watch a Big Sky conference game. Those that watch the league understand how competitive the league is from top to bottom and to take that a step further the league does have a lot of individual talent that a lot of the bigger teams covet in the transfer portal.
Northern Arizona is one of those teams that has a lot of individual talent. The Lumberjacks are a team on the rise and are going to be in the thick of the Big Sky conference race. That is a testament to how good of a job head coach Shane Burcar has done to turn this program around. Northern Arizona has one of the best young breakout players in the entire sport this year.
Oakland Fort is just one of many players that Northern Arizona and coach Burcar have on the roster that are breakout candidates. As you will all find out in the later reading, Fort is the one who has the highest ceiling and is going to get the bulk of the looks on offense. If Fort does have his breakout year, it may lead to very good things for the Lumberjacks, and it could see them compete for the top of the Big Sky.
Coach Burcar has been close for the last few seasons, and the Lumberjacks have made noise within the conference. If everything goes right and their budding star has a breakout year, Northern Arizona becomes the favorite in the Big Sky.
