Big Sky Basketball: In-depth look at Northern Arizona guard Oakland Fort
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Fort for 2024-25 season
There are not many players in the country who can do what Fort can do at under 6’0” tall. The point guard stands at 5’10” and can easily get the rim. He has a penchant for getting fouled a lot, and with his ability to get to the rim, ability to shoot threes, and play defense, he becomes the key to the game plan for every team the Lumberjacks are going to play. These factors and his extremely high ceiling is the main reason that he is due for a breakout.
There is a chance that if the Lumberjacks and their point guard have a good season that Fort could be in the running for the conference player of the year. He is likely going to be on an all conference team and with a good year will likely be on the first team. The time is now for Fort to take the next step in his development and coach Burcar hopes that happens because he is good enough to set Northern Arizona over the top.
There is more to the Lumberjacks than just Fort. He is the player who is due a breakout, but they will get back Carson Towt who can dominate underneath. Trent McLaughlin was the leading scorer for the Lumberjacks last year. He already had his breakout and is hoping to build off that. That is a fantastic trio and one of the better ones in the Big Sky. The time is now for Northern Arizona and Carson Fort to have a great season and make a lot of noise in the conference.
