Big Ten Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team
Washington Huskies - Grade: B
The program ended the Mike Hopkins era and picked Utah State HC Danny Sprinkle to be his successor after taking the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament. One of the big questions for the program was whether they would be able to also get Great Osobor, the star forward and reigning Mountain West Player of the Year.
After a long recruitment, Osobor committed to the Huskies, instantly giving them a go-to star to work with as they move to the Big Ten next season. That alone makes it a successful offseason, even if some of the other moves felt underwhelming. It’s also important to note that the team was able to keep the incoming freshmen guard duo of Jase Butler and Zoom Diallo from de-committing after the coaching change.
Among the seven other transfers, the most notable newcomer is DJ Davis, who averaged 13.5 ppg at Butler. Luis Kortright and Tyree Ihenacho add to the guard depth, while Chris Conway, KC Ibekwe, and Tyler Harris join Osobor in the frontcourt.
Compared to the other former Pac-12 teams joining, Washington’s new roster has the most questions. But considering that this program is rebuilding anyway, they’ll probably get a pass if they aren’t immediately a contender in the conference.
