Big Ten Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team
Michigan Wolverines - Grade: B+
The Wolverines had to make the tough decision to part ways with Coach Juwan Howard, which could’ve had a long-term negative effect on the basketball program. However, they made one of the top coaching hires of the entire carousel, landing former FAU HC, Dusty May.
It was fully expected that the roster was going to go through a complete overhaul, with just Nimari Burnett and Will Tschetter remaining. The rest of the roster are all newcomers, including three-star incoming freshmen, Durral Brooks and Justin Pippen.
The big name the team was able to get was Roddy Gayle Jr. a star guard from rival Ohio State. Landing him was a double-win in that the Wolverines have a lead guard that’s already good enough at the Big Ten level, while also taking away from the Buckeyes. And the other key pickups for the team are centers Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf, two talented frontcourt newcomers.
What stops Michigan from getting an “A” is the point guard situation, which on paper, remains a question. If either Auburn transfer Tre Donaldson or former North Texas guard Rubin Jones works out, then they’ll have a near-perfect offseason.
