Big Ten Basketball: Biggest storylines for each team entering 2024-25 season
Nebraska Cornhuskers: Can the Huskers continue its momentum?
After four grueling years of rebuilding, Fred Hoiberg finally broke through in Lincoln, taking Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.
Can the Huskers continue its momentum?
Keisei Tominaga, the Huskers’ leading scorer, is gone. Rienk Mast, who averaged 12.3 PPG, 7.5 RPG and three APG, will medically redshirt this season with a left knee injury. That’s a brutal blow for the Huskers.
However, Brice Williams and Juwan Gary are back. Hoiberg landed a big-time backcourt addition in the portal in Rollie Worster, who averaged 9.9 PPG, 4.9 RPG and 5.5 APG at Utah. Worster was first in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at the time of his injury. He only played 16 games.
Another sneaky-solid transfer portal addition is Connor Esseigan (Wisconsin). He's a perfect fit for Nebraska’s three-point friendly system.
There is enough on paper for the Huskers to stay competitive. Even in the new-look Big Ten, continuing its momentum will be priority No. 1 -- and the surefire storyline -- for Fred Hoiberg and Nebraska in 2024-25.
