9. Michigan State Spartans

There were a couple of starters that Michigan State knew were leaving in leading scorer Tyson Walker and starting forward, Malik Hall. Two other starters decided to enter the transfer portal, with Mady Sissoko going to Cal and point guard AJ Hoggard now at Vanderbilt.

The lone starter back is Jaden Akins (10.4 ppg), who could be the go-to guy on offense. Joining him is Frankie Fidler, a 6’7 forward from Omaha who led the team with 20.1 ppg and 6.3 rpg, shooting 36% from deep. He’s part of the new frontcourt, along with returning big man Xavier Booker, Coen Carr, Jaxon Kohler, Carson Cooper, and Longwood transfer, Szymon Zapala.

There are no transfers in the backcourt, leaving Jeremy Fears Jr. and Tre Holloman as the primary ball-handlers. Fears, a former four-star prospect, missed most of last season after suffering a gunshot wound in December. Incoming four-star freshmen Jase Richardson and Kur Teng will have chances to have a large role next season as well.

As long as Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo is still around, the Spartans are going to find a way to make the NCAA Tournament, so they should be a top-half team in Big Ten Basketball once again. However, from a talent standpoint, this roster has questions all around.
