Big Ten Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2024-25 season
17. Washington Huskies
2023-24 season record: 17-15 (9-11 Pac-12)
After failing to make the NCAA Tournament again, Washington parted ways with Coach Mike Hopkins and replaced him with Danny Sprinkle, who led Utah State to the Big Dance this past season. He has plenty of work to do with its roster, with the top five scorers all gone. Stars like Keion Brooks and Sahvir Wheeler ran out of eligibility, while Koren Johnson transferred over to Louisville.
Another roster departure that’s key is Wesley Yates, a former top-50 prospect from the 2023 class. The good news for Coach Sprinkle is that Zoom Diallo, a top-30 guard recruit, has opted to stay committed to Washington. Also joining is Jase Butler, a four-star prospect and former Illinois commit. Big man Wilheim Breidenbach (5.3 ppg and 3.4 rpg) is the lone rotation piece back.
The Huskies have landed two transfers from the portal. DJ Davis is a 6’1 guard coming off averaging 13.5 ppg and 2.6 apg at Butler, while Mekhi Mason put up 14.0 ppg and 2.8 apg at Rice and is a 6’5 guard/wing.
One recruitment to watch for Washington is Great Osobor, the reigning Mountain West Player of the Year. If the forward follows Coach Sprinkle over from Utah State, they’ll have a star of their own to compete in the Big Ten, Otherwise, they have a long way to go this offseason.
