Big Ten Basketball: Wisconsin and Maryland rises, Ohio State slides in latest power rankings
6. Michigan State Spartans - 10-7 (2-4)
It might be the preseason expectations playing a part in them being high up but with a 2-game difference separating 2-13, I think I can make a case for the Spartans. They’ve played much better of late, even with the road losses to Illinois and Northwestern. They have a recent win over Rutgers. The final score was 73-55, led by 15 points from Malik Hall.
Having won 6 of the last 8 games, Michigan State looks to continue being in the NCAA Tournament picture and moving up the Big Ten standings ladder. Minnesota at home is up first, followed by key road battles against Maryland and Wisconsin.
5. Indiana Hoosiers - 12-5 (4-2)
The Hoosiers have split its last four games, winning at home against Minnesota and Ohio State and falling to Nebraska and Rutgers on the road. Injuries to Xavier Johnson haven’t helped but with a frontcourt like theirs, they should be good enough to get out of the mid-tier of the conference.
The next couple of weeks could be make or break for Indiana, as they take on the top-tier group. Purdue, Illinois, and Wisconsin are up next, with two of them being on the road. An 0-3 stretch would have them squarely on the bubble with work to do.
