The foursome headed to Dayton as the last four teams in the field include the sixth Mountain West team Nevada who takes on Cincinnati as No. 11 seeds for the right to take on No. 6 Saint Mary’s in the Midwest region. The other matchup has a battle of No. 12 seeds, Wake Forest and Seton Hall with the winner taking on No. 5 seed Auburn in the West region.

First four out

The first four teams that just missed the cut include a couple of Big East teams, a member of the Pac-12, and a team from the SEC. The Mississippi Rebels just missed the cut due to a 2-4 record in quad 1 and a non-conference schedule north of 300. The Colorado Buffaloes also just missed the cut after missing a grand opportunity to make the field by losing to Arizona. Providence and Saint John’s finish the foursome, with a combined quad 1 record of 6-14 they just haven’t done enough in big games to warrant being in the field.

Next four out

The four teams that still have work to do are Gonzaga, Memphis, Virginia Tech, and Villanova. Villanova handled Seton Hall in their last game to climb closer to the field but need to keep winning games.

Gonzaga made a big jump thanks to their win at Rupp Arena over Kentucky, while Memphis and Virginia Tech have longer roads thanks to fewer needle-moving opportunities remaining.
