The Bubble

Last four in

The games in Dayton for the First Four should be very competitive. One of the two Pac-12 teams remaining after this season, the Washington State Cougars will take on Todd Golden’s Florida Gators. The winner will take on No. 6 San Diego State in the Midwest Region. The other matchup pits the Providence Friars who are holding their own after losing star Bryce Hopkins to injury against the Virginia Cavaliers. The winner of this No. 12 seed game will head to the West to face the team that plays their home games in the home of the First Four, the Dayton Flyers.

First four out

The first four teams on the outside looking in at the field begin with a new Big 12 team and a former one. The Cincinnati Bearcats and Colorado Buffaloes are a week of consistency from likely being in the field. Wake Forest and Nevada are also close to making the field and as volatile as the bubble has been there are daily changes at this point.

Next four out

The next four teams that have some work to do are headlined by the Memphis Tigers who lost to Rice for their fourth straight loss and needed a buzzer-beater from David Jones to beat Wichita State on Saturday. Two other teams are March staples that are in serious danger of missing the field.

Villanova and Gonzaga both have some ground to gain and the Bulldogs missed a golden opportunity to do so on Saturday, losing to Saint Mary’s at home. Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks complete this foursome, going 2-3 in their last five, and losing to UCLA in their last game hasn’t helped the cause.
