UConn Huskies

When the bracket reveal came out on Saturday, there was no question as to who the top seeds were, Purdue and UConn. But on paper, the Boilermakers have a better body of work, thanks to some huge non-con wins. But the Huskies have arguably been the best team in the country, having won 14 straight, which leads the country.

The Huskies dominated DePaul on the road by 36 points to only improve its resume. And on Saturday, they got the biggest win of the weekend, beating top-5 Marquette, 81-53. Donovan Clingan led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Tristen Newton had 15 points and eight assists.

But what really helps UConn is that Purdue suffered a road loss on Sunday to Ohio State, a team not projected to make the NCAA Tournament. It’s the kind of result that can switch their places to have UConn at the No. 1 overall spot. It won’t matter much since the Huskies will prefer the East Region, while Purdue will want the Midwest. Still, it could give them an even easier path to the Final Four.

There are two big road games left for UConn, who are now looking to run the table. Up next is one of them taking on Creighton. They haven’t had their big moment yet but could have one with the Huskies on Tuesday.
