Iowa State Cyclones

At the start of Big 12 play, the big question regarding the teams that were ranked was “who is for real, and who could be frauds?” The Cyclones were one of them with a non-conference resume including wins over Iowa and VCU and no other good victories. After losing to Oklahoma, they were 0-1 in league play.

That changed this past week, landing two key victories. The first was at home against No. 2 Houston, winning 57-53. Guard Tamin Lipsey had 14 points, while Milan Momcilovic had 11 points on 4/8 shooting. That’s a signature win for the Cyclones early on in league play that know will stack up well.

Iowa State followed that up with a road win at Oklahoma State. The final score was 66-42, led by 17 points from Lipsey, as well as 12 off the bench from Hason Ward. The Cowboys might be the worst team in the Big 12 right now, with a NET ranking around 125. So not only is this still a Quad 2 victory but it’s also not going to be a stain on the resume had it been a loss.

Iowa State now goes on the road for two more games, taking on TCU and BYU. Both are Quad 1 opportunities to enhance their resume so a split would be nice work for them in the least.
