The transfer portal era in college basketball is here to stay and no team is immune to its effects as evidenced by Duke's roster turnover since the end of March. Duke built great depth through the portal with the addition of Maliq Brown who last season, scored 26 points in a loss against Duke. His versatility all over the floor is what makes him valuable. Active on the defensive end, Brown led the ACC with 2.2 steals per game a season ago, landing a spot on the All-ACC Defensive team.

Mason Gillis brings winning experience to this Duke team coming over from Purdue where he came off the bench for the Boilermakers, winning Sixth Man of the Year in the Big Ten this past season. Shooting 46.8% from three, Gillis provides an ability to balance the floor offensively and should keep defenses honest in catch and shoot situations playing off of Duke's playmakers.
