Duke Basketball: Projected roster rotation and minutes for 2024-25 season
Shooting Guard
Projected starter: Caleb Foster (11 mpg)
Bench: Sion James (25 mpg), Darren Harris (4 mpg)
Because Foster started games last season when the Blue Devils were playing some of its best basketball, there’s a good chance he’ll get rewarded but being a starter as a sophomore. That being said, the team’s lack of wing depth a year ago allowed them to play more three-guard lineups, something that’s unlikely, given the incoming freshmen class.
James is the biggest name to join Duke Basketball from the transfer portal. The 6’5 guard started 107 games in four years at Tulane, coming off a career-high 14.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 2.7 apg on 51% shooting from the field and 38% from deep.
James averaged 3.5 apg in the two years prior, so he’s also comfortable being a facilitator. His experience and all-around versatility will allow Duke to play him in various lineups next year. He will have to make the jump from the AAC to the ACC level and compete with top-50 prospects for minutes, such as Harris.
A 6’6 shooting guard, Harris is the lowest-ranked incoming freshman on the team but that’s not a slight on his end as much as it’s about how loaded the recruiting class is. There’s a possibility that he’s the odd man out once the rotations get shortened but that’ll depend on how Foster and James look early on.
