Power Forward

Projected starter: Cooper Flagg (30 mpg)

Bench: Mason Gillis (10 mpg)

All eyes will be on Cooper next season, the clear-cut No. 1 incoming freshman who has received the same kind of hype that former Duke star Zion Williamson got a few years ago. He’s a 6’9 forward prospect that can score inside and out while also being a quality rim protector, without having a massive frame.

Expectations are high for Cooper and his potential impact, as he very well could lead the team in scoring next season. If he’s as good as advertised, then Duke has a real chance at winning a national title. But the team made sure to take pressure off of him by landing some frontcourt transfers with experience.

Gillis spent five years at Purdue, starting 63 games in the past. He didn’t start any games last season but still managed to have a big impact in 21 mpg off the bench, averaging 6.5 ppg and 3.9 rpg. The 6’6 combo forward shot 47% from three-point range in over three attempts per game and ended up earning Big Ten 6th Man of the Year honors.

Gillis is used to playing a supporting role in the frontcourt, having played with 2-time National Player of the Year big man, Zach Edey. He’ll be projected to play behind Cooper but don’t be surprised if they find a way to be on the court at the same time.
