Houston Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Cougars
The Cougars' schedule
Super conferences have taken over the college sports landscape, and with that has come less of an incentive to build a strong non-conference schedule knowing that the conference slate has more than enough resume-building chances baked into it. Who can blame teams, especially in the Big 12 where every game seems like a quad 1 game? Doing so has hurt teams in the past, especially when it comes to seeding.
Houston doesn't abide by that line of thinking as they have a very strong pre-Christmas portion of their schedule. They welcome Auburn to Houston for the second game of the year. After that, they prepare for Thanksgiving by hosting Louisiana and Hofstra. They head off to Las Vegas for the holiday to take part in the Players Era Tournament, where they have tilts with Alabama, Notre Dame, and Rutgers.
They finish up their non-conference by not leaving the comforts of home. They face Butler in the Big 12- Big East battle and then welcome Troy Toledo and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to town. They will ring in the new year on the road with their Big 12 opener in Stillwater against Oklahoma State. The Cougars will be tested early and often before entering conference play.
