Indiana Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Hoosiers
Overall Outlook for Indiana in 2024-25
There's always plenty of attention on the Hoosiers at a basketball crazed school like Indiana, but this season feels different. Even after the frustrations of the 2023-24 campaign, the key returns of Mgbako, Reneau, and Galloway would have the Hoosiers dreaming of big things, but now you add three of the biggest names on the transfer market in Rice, Ballo, and Carlyle?
On paper, you could certainly make an argument this is the best roster in the Big Ten. The starting lineup has the star power and the experience but perhaps more important, there's the depth on this team that was absent last season. Of course, you can never be sure how a team like this will gel but with several pieces who have been with the program already entrenched on the roster, they should have a high floor.
It also feels like the Big Ten itself sets up perfectly for Indiana to make a run at the league title. Purdue still remains the conference favorite until further notice, but a slight step-back without Zach Edey may be expected. But beyond them, the rest of the league feels wide open, with Rutgers, UCLA, Michigan State, and Illinois all likely to be in the hunt.
There will be no excuses for Mike Woodson and the Hoosiers this year. This looks to be their best team since Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller were in Bloomington. Now, it's time for them to go out and finish the job on the hardwood - a league title and deep NCAA Tournament run, while lofty, are certainly within reach.
