Indiana Basketball: Myles Rice, the newest addition for Coach Woodson
Myles Rice has made his commitment to Indiana, making Coach Mike Woodson his new leader for the upcoming season. Rice is the first player from the transfer portal to become a Hoosier so far. Before getting underway, it should be noted that he was receiving treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma leading to calling on a medical redshirt season entering the college landscape. It's great to see his man back out on the court playing the game he loves.
The decision was made on April 13th, per Joe Tipton.
Rice is a 6-foot-3 guard who weighs in at 180 pounds out of Columbia, South Carolina. He averaged 15 points, three rebounds, and four assists while making 44 percent of his shots. Although, only 28 percent for three with a lot of room for improvement.
This past November 27th, he piled on 28 points, two rebounds, as well as two assists on 60 percent shooting from the field and converted 75 percent (6-8) from deep.
Rice is exiting a Washington State program that finished its season going 25-10 overall and 14-6 in the Pac-12 placing second behind the Arizona Wildcats. However, the season was cut short after beating Drake in the first round of the big dance but getting pushed out by 11 points to Iowa State in the Round of 32.
In contrast, Indiana routed the 2023–2024 campaign with a 19–14 record and a three-way tie for sixth in the Big 10 with Michigan State and Iowa. All three schools were knotted up at 10–10 when it was all said and done.
The guard is super-speedy and favors his slashing game and dunking ability to make up most of his scoring output. All on top of his nice shooting form, which gives him the ability to put it through the net.
In the video courtesy of College Basketball Scouting, you can see the many different ways that Rice can score and contribute throughout the game. He is a three-level scorer but has a weakness in the catch-and-shoot position, unlike his skill to make things happen off a screen, which he excels at very well.
The transfer portal can check off the Indiana Hoosiers as a team with offseason activity, although this shouldn't be the last time a player chooses them as their next destination.
