Kansas State Basketball: Dug McDaniel to transfer to the Wildcats
The latest in Kansas State basketball starts with a portal grab of Michigan transfer Dug McDaniel. Coach Jerome Tang will add the talented 5-foot-11 guard, although he may be undersized compared to most guards in the college basketball realm. That does not take away from the 16 points, four rebounds, and five assists that he averaged this past season.
The Washington, DC, native announced his commitment this past April 3rd, choosing the Wildcats. A team that completed the 2023-2024 year with a 19-15 overall record and 8-10 in conference play, landing in the ninth spot within the standings.
Despite Kansas State not having the greatest record by any means (obviously), it is miles better than the devastating 8 wins and 24 losses that Michigan suffered. A tragic turn of events led to the firing of Juwan Howard, a head coach who saw ups and downs and was arguably a controversial person during his time at his alma mater.
There is a new road ahead for McDaniel, who has great potential. A guard who uses bursts of speed is crafty around the rim and a great ball-handler, especially in the high pick and roll. Not to mention his shooting ability from all around the arc. A fearless competitor who will provide great scoring production.
After two seasons as a Wolverine, McDaniel increased his scoring numbers significantly from nine points his freshman year to 16 points as a sophomore. On top of a higher field goal percentage from 39 to 41 and 36 to 37 percent from the three-point line. He's only getting better, and next season should be no different, considering that he will be in great hands with Coach Tang, who brought the Wildcats to the Elite 8 last year, in 2023.
At the moment, Cam Carter has moved on from the program joining the LSU in the SEC, however, this leaves room for McDaniel to be plugged in from the jump. Nevertheless, a huge win for Coach Tang, and will surely implement his new piece for the greater good.
