Kentucky Basketball: 20 candidates to replace John Calipari as Head Coach
By Joey Loose
Dan Hurley
Another former point guard at Seton Hall, Hurley has certainly become well more than that in recent years. Among the names on this list, this one should be one of the most unrealistic, though Hurley reportedly has expressed interest in one day living and coaching in Lexington.
A former high school coach, Hurley was solid leading Wagner and built success at Rhode Island, taking the Rams to a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament. He took over at UConn in 2018, inheriting a mess left behind by Kevin Ollie. Hurley simply has been infallible, leading the Huskies to a monumental turnaround, culminating in last season’s national championship and a trip to his year’s title game.
By the time many read this piece, Hurley may have a second-straight national championship under his belt. How could anyone leave a school after accomplishing something like that? The way this works is if the money is outrageous and if Hurley feels like he wants a new challenge. He looks pretty happy with the Huskies but crazier things have happened in this sport.
