March Madness: Power ranking the Sweet 16 teams left in 2024 NCAA Tournament
We're down to the Sweet 16 teams left in the NCAA Tournament and for the first time since 2019, all of the 1 and 2 seeds are left in the field. So while we haven't had a ton of "March Madness" results, that does set up what should be a great second weekend for the tournament.
Which of these teams have the best shot at winning it all? Here's a power ranking of those who are left in the NCAA Tournament field.
16. NC State Wolfpack
Not too long ago, the Wolfpack were left for dead. They ended the regular season with four straight losses and had no at-large hopes. And they were even in a shootout with 15-seed Louisville in the ACC Tournament. But they've become the team who originally started out 5-1 in league play, winning five straight games to steal a bubble team's bid to make the NCAA Tournament.
Their first opponent in the Big Dance was Texas Tech, who did have a healthy Warren Washington at center to country D.J. Burns. But it was another big man who shined for the Wolfpack in Ben Middlebrooks, who had a career-high 21 points in the team's 80-67 opening round victory.
In the Round of 32, NC State had a thrilling overtime win over potential Cinderella, Oakland. It went to overtime, with the Wolfpack winning 79-73. All five starters were in double figures, led by Burns producing 24 points and 11 rebounds. Mohammed Diarra also had a double-double (11 pts and 13 rebs) on the night.
As the lone double-digit seed, NC State stands out among the group, placing them in the bottom spot. Still, they're a capable power conference team with wins over NC State and Duke in the past couple of weeks. Their next big opponent is Marquette in the Sweet 16.
