Michigan Basketball: 11 candidates to replace Juwan Howard as Head Coach

Should the Wolverines decide that they want their next leader to have head coaching experience at the power conference level then they have a number of options available. While a retread hire isn’t exactly ideal for a program like Michigan, Miller isn’t technically a retread considering the work he’s done the last few years in his return to Xavier.
Miller played point guard at Pittsburgh before spending over a decade as a collegiate assistant, working under great coaches like Herb Sendek and Thad Matta. His first stint as Xavier’s head coach began in 2004, leading the program to an Elite Eight before taking over at Arizona five years later. More Elite Eight’s followed for the Wildcats during a mostly-prosperous 12-year stint. Miller was rehired by the Musketeers in 2022 and led them to the Sweet Sixteen in his first season back in Cincinnati.
The first big question is if Miller would leave Xavier yet again for a major coaching opportunity. The next question is how Michigan would feel about Miller’s tenure in Arizona, in which he underachieved at times and had a few recruiting issues near the end. He’s still a major name in coaching circles and has proven that with a turnaround at Xavier; he’s certainly worth putting feelers out, especially with his success in multiple power conferences.
