NBA Draft 2024: 3 player options for New York Knicks to consider
G Ryan Dunn, Virginia
There's been a rising sentiment across the internet that the Knicks could target Virginia guard Ryan Dunn with one of their first-round picks. It's easy to understand why, as this is a player that will fit Thibodeau's mentality.
First, Dunn is tall for a guard - he's more like a wing. He's 6-foot-8 and has a wingspan of nearly seven feet. Dunn uses that size to be a monster on the defensive end, particularly on the perimeter, where he's one of the best prospects in this class.
His ability to defend virtually anybody on the court will quickly endear him to Thibodeau, who is always looking for hardnosed and versatile defenders. He can generate turnovers and get things going in transition, showing the kind of hustle that is reminiscent of Josh Hart.
In another similarity to Hart, Dunn's offensive game leaves something to be desired. He only averaged 8.1 points per game last year and shot a pitiful 20 percent from three and 53.2 percent from the charity stripe. That could make him a liability on that end of the court.
It would be great if Dunn can develop more offensively and show some 3-and-D potential, but he's already got the latter of the equation figured out. For a team that found plenty of success preaching defense last season, that will do.
