NBA Draft 2024: 3 player options for New York Knicks to consider
F Kyle Filipowski, Duke
After jettisoning one Duke Blue Devil in RJ Barrett last year, the Knicks could return to the well with Kyle Filipowski towards the end of the first round. That would improve New York's frontcourt depth, which was lacking in the postseason as the injury bug set in.
The big man could've been one-and-done in Durham. Instead, he took the tact of being two-and-through, which may have actually hurt his draft stock.
Filipowski has many of the offensive skills sought after in today's NBA. He feels comfortable handling the ball and helps the offense flow. His soft touch should make him a decent three-point shooter at the next level, though his relative lack of strength makes him less threatening at the rim.
On defense, Filipowski is reliable. He got his hands in the right position and showed a greater propensity as a sophomore to swat away shots. He probably won't be a Defensive Player of the Year, but he can be a team's best defender and should be more than competent at bare minimum.
His strong playmaking instincts can also get him into some trouble. He's a good distributor for his size, but he turned the ball over more than twice per game as a sophomore, something he'll need to clean up at the professional level.
There's a good chance Filipowski doesn't make it to the mid-20s, but it's also not out of the question. The Knicks could target the 7-footer and become his floor, though they could also combine picks to trade up and snag him.
