4. Phoenix Suns (Pick No. 22)

It’s a rare first-round pick that the Suns have for the foreseeable future and assuming they don’t target Bronny James, needs to address one of its main needs. I argue they need a point guard so they can move Devin Booker back to his natural position as shooting guard.

Yes, Carrington’s age may not be super appealing for a team that’s in a “win now” situation. However, what he may lack in experience could be negated by having three superstars on the court, including Booker and Kevin Durant. So Carrington, who has proven to be a capable passer, wouldn’t have to do too much but his presence can stabilize the lineup.

3. Washington Wizards (Pick No. 26)

Carrington hails from Baltimore, Maryland, which would make the Wizards the “hometown” franchise for him. And besides the opportunity to go back home, Washington truly needs a franchise point guard for the future. Tyus Jones (12.0 ppg and 7.3 apg) was a solid starter this past season but isn’t viewed as the long-term option for the future.

The Wizards have the second pick in the draft but based on the available options, they’re very likely to select a frontcourt player. So it would make sense to get a guard at 26. They’re not going to be in a position to win anytime soon so they’re the one team that can take the young Carrington and go through the growing pains of his development. By the time he’s ready to flourish, Washington will be in a better position to succeed.
