2. Miami Heat (Pick No. 15)

There are plenty of reasons why players would want to get drafted by Miami, including the location and championship culture. They also have been one of the better NBA franchises when it comes to both drafting and developing prospects outside of the lottery. So giving them a young player like Carrington would benefit both sides long-term.

Point guard is also a position of need for the Heat going forward. Kyle Lowry is on his last legs as a rotation piece, while Tyler Herro isn’t a “true” PG who can run an offense. With Jimmy Butler aging, the title window for this franchise is closing fast so looking for a key piece for the future should be a priority.

1. Minnesota Timberwolves (Pick No. 27)

After a breakthrough year for the franchise, the Wolves look to be a contender going forward in the Western Conference, led by star Anthony Edwards. The one position that needs to be addressed long-term is point guard. Mike Conley will be 37 next season and while he’s been a great leader and steady ball-handler, Minnesota does need to find its future starting PG and the draft is where they’ll have to look.

Due to Carrington’s age, he’s probably not ready to play big minutes as a rookie. But he could serve as a backup to Conley next season while he’s still capable of being a starter, before eventually taking over. It might not be realistic to see him fall to 27 but a good case can be made that Minnesota would be the best spot for Carrington to fall to.
