NBA Draft 2024: Top 3 options for the San Antonio Spurs with the 8th pick in the 1st round
2. SG/SF, Dalton Knecht, Tennessee
One of the purest offensive games in this entire draft class resides in the hands of former junior college prospect Dalton Knecht. One of the coolest stories in the draft is the journey it took Knecht to be valued as a lottery pick.
He started his collegiate career at Northeastern Junior College, then transferred to the Big Sky Conference to play for Northern Colorado, where he was one of the best players in the conference. During his senior season, he was founded by Rick Barnes of Tennessee, giving him the opportunity to play in the SEC and really be seen. He took full advantage of that opportunity and ended up being one of the best players in the entire country last season, leading Tennessee to the Elite 8.
Knecht's ability to score the basketball and his underrated length and size pair him perfectly into the San Antonio Spurs offense as a shooting guard or small forward. He averaged 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 45.8% from the field and 39.7% from three. Knecht needs to improve defensively but would be a great option as a scoring outlet for the Spurs with the 8th overall pick.
