NCAA Basketball: 10 teams with under-the-radar solid 2024 offseason transfer classes
8. Temple Owls
Ever since they made the NCAA Tournament in the last year of the Coach Fran Dunphy era, Temple has struggled to even be over .500 in AAC play. The top three scorers all elected to enter the portal this offseason, including lead guys, Hysier Miller and Jahlil White.
However, a case can be made that Temple was a quiet winner this offseason with its pickups. They landed Jamal Mashburn, one of the top players over in the Mountain West for the last couple of years. The 6’2 guard averaged 17 ppg in the last three seasons at New Mexico, even despite what was a “down” past season from him.
At point guard will be Lynn Greer, a 6’2 guard from St. Joe’s. He averaged 10.9 ppg and 3.7 apg last season, shooting 45% from the field and being a triple-double threat at times. They also took a swing at Jameel Brown, a 6’4 guard from Penn State who is looking for more playing time after two years of limited minutes.
Elijah Gray (8.4 ppg and 3.7 rpg at Fordham) gives Temple another body inside, while Mohamed Keita (Tulsa) and Christian Tomasco (Hofstra) add frontcourt depth. This core might not be ready to compete with Memphis for the AAC crown but it should be enough to have them as a legit threat in the conference again.
