NCAA Basketball: 12 teams that should target Kentucky transfer Ugonna Onyenso
Illinois Fighting Illini
Former Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua is now at Illinois and his connection to Onyenso could be a factor. The Illini are also a team that needs a center, having lost all three big men this offseason, including Dain Dainja. Onyenso could be compared to Kofi Cockburn and would be a defensive improvement from what they had last season.
Kansas State Wildcats
Replacing the backcourt duo of Tylor Perry and Camryn Carter with transfers Dug McDaniel and CJ Jones, while keeping double-digit scoring forward, Arthur Kaluma. What they need is a center to replace William McNair and the other small-ball options. Onyenso would be a huge pickup for the program who’d get around 30 mpg and have a big role overall at K-State.
Louisville Cardinals
After the recent pickups of Aboubacar Traore and Chucky Hepburn, new coach Pat Kelsey has rebuilt over half of the roster. The position of need that still needs to be addressed is at center, with BYU transfer Aly Khalifa already set to redshirt and not play next season. It would certainly be unique to go from one rival to another but Onyenso wouldn’t have to travel much while having a much larger role.
