St. John’s Red Storm

The Red Storm lost its star big man this offseason in Joel Soriano and hasn’t replaced him. Zuby Ejiofor has shown some promise but he might not be ready for big minutes. The obvious selling point here is to play for Hall of Fame head coach Rick Pitino and get a starting role on a roster with NCAAT potential.

UCLA Bruins

Head coach Mick Cronin is one of the better defensive minds in NCAA Basketball, making a great potential pairing with Onyenso. The Bruins lost Adem Bona to the NBA and while they landed a couple of frontcourt transfers (Tyler Bilodeau and Eric Dailey Jr.), they don’t have a true center as they head into the Big Ten. Onyenso would be just as good a defender as Bona was and would be surrounded by plenty of good talent.

Tennessee Volunteers

The Vols lost both of its centers from last season in Jonas Aidoo and Tobe Awaka. They did add Ohio State transfer Felix Okpara but he might not be the ideal starter for them at the SEC level. Coach Rick Barnes is familiar with Onyenso and he’s another defensive mind that makes it a good match.

Many teams could use Ugonna Onyenso, besides these 12. But don’t be surprised if at least a few of these notable programs find their way into the competition for his services.
