1. More money more programs, avoid the drama in LA

More money more problems could not be any truer in this scenario. The Lakers are a dramatic situation, they have Lebron James, one of the greatest players in NBA history. However, this has led to drama when it comes to coaching, and job security comes into question no matter what the contract is.

If there is a disagreement, or Hurley’s coaching style does not match James’s, his stint with Los Angeles could have ended up short-lived. The biggest question about a Hurley move to the NBA is if his fiery personality would fit outside of the college game, and the Lakers are a tough team to test that out with.

The comparisons to Jim Harbaugh in the NFL came aplenty, but the Lakers do not have a young superstar to build around and are very much in a win-now mode, this would not have suited Hurley as he is more of a player development coach instead of a plug and play coach.

Hurley stays on the East Coast, stays at a premiere program, and has a chance to establish himself as one of the greatest head coaches in the history of the sport, but time will tell if he takes another head coaching job in the NBA if it comes about. Some have already floated his name around for if the Knicks job was to open up, but for now, it is all about the three-peat in Storrs.
