NCAA Basketball: 8 teams who should target Duke transfer guard Jeremy Roach
USC Trojans
I talked before about Roach’s familiarity with Arkansas and that includes its former head coach, who is now at USC. Eric Musselman has a nearly empty roster to rebuild, starting off with 6’1 guard transfer from Penn, Clark Slajchert. He’s a combo guard himself but doesn’t have a ton of size, so Roach would have to play/defend some off-ball.
Musselman typically has great offenses and even last year’s group had Tramon Mark, who excelled as a go-to scorer. Roach could potentially thrive as the lead guard for the Razorbacks and instantly be one of the best perimeter players in the Big Ten in 2025.
Virginia Cavaliers
Since Roach is from Virginia, I have to have one of the two big schools be an option. And since Virginia Tech has lost most of its roster to the transfer portal, only the Cavaliers make sense. That’s especially true since its lead guard, Reece Beekman, is gone after four seasons as a starter.
Yes, the slow-paced offensive system may not be the most appealing to transfers but whoever the lead guard is still is able to put up big numbers. Plus, Tony Bennett is still one of the top head coaches in NCAA Basketball. Being able to come home could be a big selling point to the senior playmaker too.
