SMU Mustangs

Pros

SMU is going from the AAC to the ACC, a massive move for the program which instantly makes them a more appealing place for transfers. The Texas-based school also has plenty of resources which has allowed them to land several key names, including Wake Forest transfer guard Kevin Miller and even head coach Andy Enfield from USC.

This roster doesn’t have a true wing so they’d have to play three-guard lineups. So Kaluma can come in and have a massive role and could easily be the go-to option as a senior. And while it’s not publicly reported, there’s a decent chance that the Mustangs could have the top NIL-related package to offer him.

Cons

While it’s great that SMU is now in the ACC, that doesn’t stop the likely growing pains that the program is going to have. It’s the same program that struggled to even finish in the top half of the American and while Coach Enfield has several postseason appearances on his resume, he himself is also coming off a poor year with the Trojans despite having one of the best backcourts (Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier) in the country.

Does Kaluma want to use his final year for SMU’s first year in the ACC? If he was a freshman or sophomore, this option would look even more appealing. But from a winning potential standpoint, this will be hard to see, even in a league that’s been “down” in the middle and bottom in the past few years.
