Texas Longhorns

Pros

Speaking of conference realignment moves, Texas is heading to the SEC, a league on par with the Big 12 in terms if basketball talent. So Kaluma would be a good fit in that regard. It’s also a team that lost its two key forwards this offseason, with Dylan Disu moving on and Dillon Mitchell transferring out.

That leaves mainly Indiana State transfer Jayson Kent as the guy that can play the forward positions and the former Missouri Valley Conference star is unproven at the SEC level. The team needs a proven scorer alongside returning center Kadin Shedrick to balance out the offense and with Tramon Mark and Jordan Pope on board in the backcourt, Texas could have a top-tier offense with Kaluma joining.

Cons

It’s certainly not like SMU going to the ACC but there will be some adjustments for the Longhorns in the new conference, as there truly aren’t any bottom-feeders to get wins on. Plus, depending on how you feel about Coach Rodney Terry, there could be some questions as to how good he is.

Texas did make an Elite 8 appearance when Terry took over and they did make the NCAA Tournament last season, though from a talent standpoint, they had ups and downs. Of course, there are other questions with the other head coaches in the mix so it may not matter. That being said, Mitchell leaving for Cincy may be an indictment on Coach Terry from a development standpoint.
