1. Houston (22-3)

Houston seems to have an answer for everything this season, yet another example of the amazing progress this program has had in recent years. The Cougars only just joined the Big 12 this season and have made themselves comfortable already in their new league, sitting pretty atop the league standings with just a few games left.

Even when their offense isn’t firing on all cylinders the Cougars have found ways to win, doing so in a 67-59 home win over Cincinnati. It wasn’t pretty on Tuesday, but L. J. Cryer had 22 points and Houston did enough to win again. Their matchup on Saturday night turned into quite the contest, with a Jamal Shead jumper in the final seconds securing an 87-85 win at Oklahoma. Cryer led the Cougars with 23 points while J’Wan Roberts added 20 points and 5 rebounds.

This team has proven a lot already this season, though the adventure has barely begun. This team will be judged by what they do in the NCAA Tournament, much like last season was after an untimely exit. Houston has fit nicely into a really tough Big 12 and won game after game at the highest stage. That’ll have to continue, as they’ll host Kansas to end their regular season, with their sights set on avenging their only loss in February.
