NCAA Basketball: Arizona, Duke, and San Diego State rises in latest top 25 power rankings

1. Purdue (12-1)
Purdue hits New Year’s with just a single blemish on their resume, being a tough overtime loss at Northwestern, their only true road game of the young season. They were simply phenomenal against a brutal nonconference slate that included Arizona, Marquette, Tennessee, and Gonzaga, and certainly enter Big Ten play as the overwhelming favorite, even if they already have one in the loss column.
Purdue finished that nonconference slate on a lighter note this past week, getting back on the court on Friday against Eastern Kentucky. The Boilermakers didn’t need to push too much, securing an 80-53 win over the Colonels. Fletcher Loyer led the team with 14 points, Zach Edey added 13 points and 7 rebounds, and the Boilermakers did more than enough as a team to finish the nonconference season perfect.
You won’t find a bad performance among Purdue’s first thirteen outings and Edey is playing like a national player of the year once again. This offense is scary when they’re on their game and have already proven that they can go toe to toe with anyone in the country. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks as they get each Big Ten’s best shot, starting Tuesday at Maryland before a toughie at home against Illinois.
We have completed another week’s look at the Top 25 teams in the nation. There weren’t many games to consider following the Christmas break, but we’re considering how these teams sit as a whole. Do you agree with these rankings or were some teams underappreciated or overrated?
