20. San Diego State (11-2)

Though excitement continues to gleam throughout the fan base, you can guarantee that the players at San Diego State have moved past last year’s trip to the national championship game, hoping instead to repeat the feat this season. There have been some challenges this season, including two very tough true road losses, but Jaedon LeDee has emerged as a potential All-American and the team is coming off their best performance of the season.

In their first game after Christmas, the Aztecs went on the road but didn’t come up shy this time. On Friday night, they traversed to Spokane and left town with an 84-74 victory at Gonzaga. San Diego State earned their first ranked win of the season, led by Reese Waters’ 22 points and a 20-point, 7-rebound outing from LeDee himself.

There have been some less than ideal outings from these Aztecs this season, but they went 3-0 against the Pac-12 and beat both Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s by double-digits away from home. Haven’t they proven that they’re one of the nation’s best teams, and certainly among those on the west coast? We won’t know the answer to that quite yet because the MWC is loaded with talent this season. They’ll get conference play underway with two very winnable home dates against Fresno State and UNLV.
