1. Purdue (11-1)

While that overtime road loss at Northwestern remains a head scratcher, Purdue has built a fantastic resume and enter Christmas with perhaps the nation’s best resume. Wins over Gonzaga, Tennessee, and Marquette in Maui have been joined by December victories over talented Alabama and Arizona squads, with the Boilermakers certainly getting back on track this month.

Their only test of this past week wasn’t much of a test at all, as the Boilermakers welcomed Jacksonville to town back on Tuesday. Those Dolphins were sent packing early, as Purdue coasted to a 100-57 victory. Zach Edey had 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead a balanced attack where Matt Painter really emptied the bench in a total team win.

There are many blessings for Purdue to consider as they reach the Christmas break, boasting a powerful offense, a sneaky good defense, and perhaps college basketball’s best player in Edey again this season. They faced a nonconference schedule full of tumult and have come out ahead, with just a home date against Eastern Kentucky between them and the real start of Big Ten play.

We’ve finished our deep dive into this week’s edition of the Top 25 teams in the nation. We’ve carefully examining where they stand here in late December, but do you agree with the teams included and where we ranked them? Was someone else more deserving for their performances in recent weeks?
