5. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Biggest need: Depth, once again

Although Gonzaga didn’t necessarily run the table this year, they still managed to snag a 5-seed and make the Sweet 16, a testament to the overall strength of the program under Mark Few. Gonzaga, similar to Kansas, struggled with depth issues last year because Steele Venters suffered a season-ending injury before the season even started. Flash forward to 2024-25, the roster currently has an interesting mold of almost entirely sophomores and seniors. Losing Anton Watson hurts yet Few was able to add transfer Michael Ajayi, who averaged a near-double-double at Pepperdine. Even with Ajayi and Venters in the mix, expect the Bulldogs to look to add more depth via the portal.

4. Iowa State Cyclones

Biggest need: Mesh the frontcourt pieces together

With two more scholarships left to fill, Iowa State is in solid shape roster-wise. Equipped with an elite guard duo of Tamin Lipsey and Keshon Gilbert alongside Curtis Jones and Milan Momcilovic, the Cyclones have enough returning pieces to not skip a beat next season -- and will likely be even better. With Robert Jones, Tre King and Hasson Ward departing, TJ Otzelberger made splashes in the portal, adding Charlotte center Dishon Jackson and 6’10 forward/center Brandon Chatfield from Seattle. The talent and the pieces are there. Now T.J. Otzelberger must find a way to mesh the pieces together.
