Biggest need: traditional point guard

Losing Ja’Kobe Walter to the NBA Draft alongside Rayj Dennis to graduation -- the team’s top-two leading scorers -- leaves a void in the backcourt. Langston Love fills more of a shooting guard role and Jayden Nunn was more so a secondary ball handler last season, so finding a traditional point guard -- either from incoming four-star freshman Rob Wright or from the portal -- would seem wise for Scott Drew, who has been keen to utilize a three-guard starting lineup.

Biggest need: Prepare as if Kalkbrenner doesn’t return

As the saying goes, it's better to be proactive rather than reactive. Although its principle to write as if Kalkbrenner is returning unless stated otherwise, it would be wise for Greg McDermott to grab a starting-five caliber center from the portal in case Kalkbrenner doesn’t return or if he does, adding another depth piece at the five spot. Kalkbrenner, who finds himself as a second-round pick in most NBA Draft mock boards, is truly a toss-up whether he stays or leaves -- and the last thing McDermott would want to do is to scramble for a starting-five caliber center late in the transfer portal if Kalkbrenner elects to forgo his final year of eligibility.
