3. UConn Huskies - Huskies looking to repeat for a national title

Up until Creighton shot them out of the building at home last week, UConn had the longest winning streak in NCAA Basketball, blowing out the rest of the Big East. Despite losing a few NBA players, the Huskies still have a ton of talent, with Tristen Newton playing at an All-American level and Cam Spencer being an impact transfer. They might not be as good as last year’s team that won it all but right now, they seem to be good enough to win it all this year.

2. Purdue Boilermakers - Looking to capitalize on Edey’s last year

It’s not a big surprise but Coach Matt Painter made it official that likely two-time National Player of the Year big man Zach Edey will be leaving Purdue after the season. They’re once again a projected 1 seed and a favorite to win it all. After losing in the Round of 64 last year, this team will need to make a Final Four run to avoid spoiling having one of the all-time greats in Big Ten history.

1. Houston Cougars - Big 12 play preparing them for a deep March run

Houston dominated the AAC for years making a Final Four run in 2021 and at least a Sweet 16 appearance in each of the last four completed seasons. There was a question of how this team would look going to the hardest league schedule possible and they did start out 0-2.

Yet they’ve won 11 of 12 games since, including wins over Baylor, Iowa State, and BYU. They’re first in the Big 12 standings and a projected 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In just a few short months, there might be a new sheriff in town at the conference.
